CLIENT NEED

In March 2004, as a result of a scored technical evaluation by the IOC, the number of bidding cities was reduced from nine to five, with London ranked third. As a consequence of this low ranking, MI was appointed by the London 2012 Bid Committee to provide specialist advisory services and project management services to improve the chances of London being selected host the Games.

MI SOLUTION

Utilising our Olympic Games experience and knowledge of the IOC requirements, MI was able to improve the technical responses associated with the bid, ensuring that they would meet the requirements of IOC Evaluation Commission panel. Through a disciplined project management approach to content writing, design, key message development and production, the completed 700-page bilingual bid documentation was submitted to the IOC on the 12 November 2004 in conjunction with over 200 guarantees.

CLIENT OUTCOME

The official bid was submitted to the IOC in November 2004 and in June 2005, the IOC released its evaluation of the bids noting that London had closed the gap observed by the initial evaluation in March 2004. On the 6th July 2005, London was selected as the host for the Games of the XXX Olympiad.
