RIO 2016 OLYMPIC PARK AND NATIONAL TRAINING CENTRE MASTER PLAN
MI Associates were engaged by the Rio 2016 Olympic Games Organising Committee to develop a precinct masterplan for the Olympic Park and National Olympic Training Centre facility in Rio de Janeiro.
The site comprised over 1,180,000 sqm and was designed to cater for ten Olympic sports and eleven Paralympic sports as well as the Main Press Centre and the International Broadcasting Centre.
The MI Associates role included extensive stakeholder engagement with the Rio 2016 Olympic Games Organising Committee and the City of Rio de Janeiro, development of the sport specifications, development of the client design brief and documentation for both the masterplan and each venue, aimed at maximising opportunities for the facilities during the games and through legacy.
The masterplan provided a long term design vision and blueprint to guide the changes and development of the facilities through the Olympic Games and the sites future iterations to deliver a legacy for Rio de Janeiro
