Rio 2007 Pan American Games
Planning and Preparation
The City of Rio de Janeiro required a consultant to develop all aspects of the planning and operations framework for the 2007 Pan American Games.
MI Associates provided strategic support and planning and operations input to all levels of the Rio 2007 Pan American Games Organising Committee. This support centred on the establishment of the Games Planning Framework including: governance structure development; the development of a Games planning master schedule; functional and operational business planning; design, implementation and management of the Main Operations Centre; venue overlay design, procurement and implementation planning; risk identification and risk management; training and education seminars for the entire Organising Committee and for venue teams; contingency planning and the implementation of a series of operational readiness exercises immediately prior to the Games; and Games time support to the Executive and to the Main Operations Centre.
The Rio 2007 Pan American Games were successfully delivered in July 2007 and were noted for their operational excellence. It was the first time that the full Olympic sport program plus the Pan American sports program had been used and this provided a solid foundation for Rio de Janeiro to bid for the 2012 Olympic Games and then to win the right to host the 2016 Olympic and Paralympic Games.
