Sydney Cricket Ground Redevelopment
Sydney Cricket and Sports Ground Trust needed assistance to procure the Bradman, Noble and Messenger Stands (project cost $200m) which is Stage 2 of their long-term Masterplan. The existing stand was no longer operating effectively and needed to be replaced with a stand that will provide an excellent user experience for fans, hospitality and hirers. The client also needed to increase revenues and reduce operation costs.
MI Associates fulfilled the role of Project Director for the Sydney Cricket and Sports Ground Trust. The project had a high level of complexity due to the need to keep both Allianz Stadium and the Sydney Cricket Ground operational during the works, the constrained site, and the requirement for staged handovers to achieve seating capacities for milestone events. MI as Project Director supported the Sydney Cricket and Sports Ground Trust every step of the way from the initial strategy all the way through to operational readiness.
The Bradman, Noble and Messenger Stands were successfully opened on time and within budget in January 2014 in advance of the Ashes test between Australia and England. Throughout the build both Allianz and Sydney Cricket Ground remained operation with minimum impact on the Trust operations. The Sydney Cricket and Sports Ground Trust increased revenue significantly, for example an initial incremental increase in the spend per head of 200% in the stand post development, which was well in excess of their expectations.
The Sydney Cricket Ground won Sports Event of the Year and Project of the Year at the global 2015 The Stadium Business Awards. NSW Minister for Sport, Hon Stuart Ayres MP, congratulated the SCG Trust saying it was a fantastic international achievement.
“The SCG is an icon of Australian sport and we are delighted that it has been recognised globally,” said Mr Ayres*
